Our Honey Locations

Maui may be a small island, but its landscapes are remarkably diverse. Within just a few miles, conditions can shift from dry coastal grasslands to misty rainforests, from ranch country to native forest, and from historic agricultural lands to thriving orchards and gardens. These differences in climate, elevation, rainfall, and vegetation create unique nectar sources for honey bees—and ultimately produce honeys with their own distinctive colors, aromas, and flavors.
The map above shows the locations of our apiaries across Maui. Each circle represents the approximate foraging range of our bees, who typically travel up to 2 miles from their hive in search of nectar and pollen. Within these landscapes, bees visit hundreds of flowering plants, gathering the ingredients that give each honey its unique character.
As you explore the locations below, you'll discover the plants, ecosystems, and cultural histories that shape each region's honey. From the rainforest edges of Huelo to the agricultural slopes of Makawao, the native forests of East Maui, and the sunny hillsides of Launiupoko, every hive location tells a different story about the land and the bees who call it home.
At Upcountry Apiaries, we have been caring for honey bees on Maui since 2011. Our work is rooted not only in producing exceptional honey, but also in supporting pollinator health, strengthening local food systems, and helping maintain healthy bee populations across the island. Every hive contributes to the pollination of farms, gardens, orchards, and wild landscapes, helping sustain the ecological richness that makes Maui such a remarkable place.
